I Introduction Ludwig van Beethoven was a great composer at his time. He was a German composer and born in a big family whose interest and inclination is music. Though at the age of 20, he was already known as a pianist and a composer with distinctive talent, it was at the age of 30 that Beethoven was recognized as a talented pianist. In 1796, his life changed when he started to feel deafness. At first, he was dismayed and become irritable so that he almost lost his hope but due to his strong determination, he continued to compose music. He was able to create wonderful and well-loved music even though he became totally deaf. Beethoven was the grandson of a musician of Flemish origin named Lodewijk van Beethoven (1712–1773). Beethoven was named after his grandfather, as Lodewijk is the Dutch cognate of Ludwig.
